Nomadic Pathway · Trekking & adventures · Four places
Trekking with your own horse.
Where it all comes together: training on the go, day treks growing into a four-day trek, and real overnight adventures, for horse and human ready to go further. Walking or riding, guided the whole way.
Training on the go
Learning on adventures: training your horse on the trail.
Out on the trail the training is real: a stream to cross, a gate to open, a narrow bridge to walk. You learn to guide your horse through challenges, to make each question small enough for your horse to stay curious, and to step in the moment your horse needs you. The comfort zone grows one step at a time, and you grow right alongside.
Everything you ask out there has a purpose, so it feels like enjoying yourself while you learn. And I know no better, and no faster, way to train a horse than out on the trail.
How it runs
Three training weekends, and a four-day trek at the end.
This Pathway runs with four participants, each with their own horse: small enough to go anywhere, and for me to have eyes on every one of you out on the trail. Two weekends of three days, one weekend of two days, day treks along the way, and then the trek itself: four days out together.
What you'll explore
What you'll explore.
Training on the go
Groundwork and riding, woven together in real terrain. Most days are a mix of the two, and walking or riding are equally good ways through this Pathway.
Day treks
The step up from hacking out: a whole day out together, a route, breaks along the way, a picnic while your horse rests beside you. The micro adventures that build towards the big one.
Preparing for days away
The skills, the kit, packing your saddle bags, and the capacity a trek asks for.
The multi-day trek
Days out in nature together, a riding horse or a horse in hand, saddle bags packed, deep down in the woods. Every night a new place to sleep: a stable or paddock for the horses, a bed for you. And for those ready to go all the way back to basics, we can talk about tents, and camping with the horses.
Before you join
Who this Pathway is for.
Going out on the trail takes capacity: emotional, mental and physical. The other Pathways and private lessons with me build exactly that, so this Pathway is open to the pairs who have done one of them, once I feel you are ready. You can walk it in hand or ride it, which means you can also join straight after the groundwork Pathway.
The sweet spot is an experienced horse with an experienced human. It also works when one of you brings the experience: a green horse learns a lot from an experienced human, and a green human from an experienced horse. And on every adventure, I am there to guide horse and human.
We look at it together at the intake. And if the two of you aren't there yet, this Pathway waits for you.
What it gives you
What this Pathway gives you.
A horse who is confident out on the trail with you, and skills that hold up when it matters. The kit and the know-how to plan your own trek. And the thing you came for: nights away with your horse, and a partnership that has been through something together.
You can join this Pathway more than once: every time with more experience, bigger challenges and a deeper bond. It is one of the best and most fun ways to learn.
Dates and investment come with the intake. How a Pathway runs
Before you apply
Good questions.
Out on a trek you are together from waking to sleeping, facing real challenges, relying on each other, having each other's backs. Everything your horse learns out there, your horse learns for real. In a week on the trail a horse learns more than in months in the arena. And it goes deeper than skills.
I used to think so. Now the trek is how we get in shape: starting slow, building it up, taking pauses. Building it up slowly is the fastest way to get a horse in shape.
No. The treks can be walked just as well as ridden, and you can mix the two.
Mostly at a B&B, with a paddock or stable for your horse, and you book them yourself, directly with the places along the way. You'll find all the details in the Pathway guide.
Where the adventures begin
Ready to go further.
Tell me about you and your horse, what you have built so far, and the adventure you have in mind. There are four places, and at the intake we see together if the two of you are ready.
